USEFUL COMPUTATIONAL METHODS

The procedures given below are useful, extremely easy to learn, and easy to use. Mathematically gifted students should make use of them when an answer is not obvious and when a calculator is not at hand. The algorithms will be useful also in the rare situation where greater precision than that provided by a calculator is needed. Further, these algorithms would make you THINK as well as appreciate the concept of place value in the decimal system. Instructors of computer science in high schools and universities might find the algorithms appropriate as student programming exercizes.
