The faculty at MathPath are experts in their fields – PhD mathematicians teaching at a college or university – who care about communicating mathematics to young students and do it very well. On a few occasions we hire school teachers or other mathematics professionals, with or without advanced degrees, who are exceptional in their knowledge and teaching, or if they have been outstanding math team coaches.

The regular faculty – those who have taught at MathPath before and typically stay at least two weeks and teach several courses – have proved to be outstanding in working with middle school age kids. In addition, each year there are new short-term faculty, distinguished professors and rising young talents, including faculty at the host institution.

What would you get to teach? There are some topics we do every year: induction, number theory, geometries, combinatorics – important topics not covered well in the American school curriculum. But mostly we want faculty to teach enrichment topics that they particularly like and want a chance to teach. Part of what we want students to learn is how broad mathematics is. The one criterion is that the material be accessible to these students and can be made interesting to them, in part by making classes interactive. The Executive Director is very interested to hear your ideas. We like it if 1/3 to 1/2 of our courses change every year.
