Mathpath 2004 held at Roger Williams University
Bristol, RI
June 27 - July 25
We were somewhat hesitant about MathPath, considering that the program was only in its third year. We were concerned that organization would be lacking or that campers would spend their time with poorly prepared teachers. None of that! This is the first summer program we have seen that fully addresses the intellectual capabilities of these kids. Activities and field trips were superb. Classroom topics were very challenging, but always presented in a fun, engaging way. The teachers and guest speakers were outstanding, like attending a national-level conference of distinguished mathematicians, but alot funner. Counselors were mature, attentive and intelligent (Jonah, one of the counselors, spent hour after hour with our son introducing math concepts). Fellow campers were bright, stimulating, and crazy about math. Our son loved every minute of MathPath; his enthusiasm for math has turned into a passion.

Thank you so much for letting my son Yijun Qiao go through such a wonderful camp! He is so excited not only because he gained the knowledge of math reasoning and met some famous math professors, but also because be was trained on how to live with his peers in his daily life, which he never experienced before. All the staffs like you took care of them in a very careful but efficient way with proper daily schedules well arranged. Although he will not be qualified to attend the next year's Mathpath Camp as a consequence of his age, we would highly recommend it to any other child who wants to combine math learning with a fun camp experience.

Thank you for organizing such a wonderful camp for middle schoolers. Chris LOVED his time at Mathpath and would have stayed all summer if he could; and we thought 4 weeks would be too long. He loved the topics covered at camp, talking with the instructors, and socializing with other "mathletes". He always loved math, but now he displays a new enthusiasm, inquisitiveness, and "spark" for the subject.
As parents, we appreciated how well the camp was run and the safety of the campers. I flew with Chris to camp, but felt very comfortable having him fly home as an unescorted minor. Your counselors were helpful, considerate, mature, and excellent role models. I highly recommend this camp for any middle schooler with a high interest in math -- great counselors and professors, clean and safe facilities, and an exciting curriculum.
We will see you next year!!! Thank you for a wonderful summer camp.

It was our son's first camp, such camps not being the norm for the UK, and certainly not ones lasting four weeks. We had some concerns, most of which came from our ignorance and inexperience about camps. Not one of them was justified. When he said goodbye to his new friends after a very happy four weeks, he wanted the camp to continue. The four weeks had just not been long enough for him in that environment. His only criticism was that he wanted to do more maths and have less free time. The scheduled outings were very well organised and efficiently "policed" by all the staff. We heard very little moaning about the camp apart from the mosquito invasion on night one! The faculty staff were generally kind, encouraging and supportive. The counsellors were young, interested in the MathPath students, and diligent in all their duties.
Overall, the general tone of the camp was that of "enjoyable mathematical stimulation". Our son really loved the whole mathematical experience. He'd been stimulated to such an extent that he wanted to buy all the recommended books, and he has now started devouring them. Being exposed to Professor Thomas and his team, each of whom could take him, at length, down various mathematical paths, was a joy to him.
He wants to return next year, and we'd be very happy for him to do so.

This is the fourth year that our son has attended a residential enrichment
summer camp at an out-of-state college campus; however, this is the first
time we ever heard him say how much he missed camp. Mathpath provides
outstanding professors, teachers and counselors, who truly enjoy and love
math, and their passion in math proliferates and stimulates all these
mathletes. With the size of the camp, the setting is great for the
middle school aged campers. We thank you for this amazing summer experience
provided for our son. Parents with a child who exceeds in math should
definitely consider having their child spend their
summer at Mathpath.

Our son seemed to stay engaged in the math throughout the four weeks. He
got behind on sleep a couple of times, but that did not seem to be a serious
problem. He commented that the program was intense and thought that many
less-serious math students might not enjoy such a program.
I believe the opportunity to work with some world class problem solvers
(faculty and students) was valuable. I don't believe that anything
comparable is available in our area.

I like to thank you for providing such an enriching and inspiring summer math program to middle school students. Tony went to CTY for two years before this summer. While CTY's program was well organized and fun, we really struggled to find something academically challenging for Tony to take up after the first year. Tony, my wife and I are all very pleased that we came across mathpath. Tony enjoyed all his time at the mathpath summer camp, both mathematically and socially. He has shown such enthusiasm about next year's mathpath so much in advance, it amazes us.
